BREAKING NEWS: Court nullifies Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti win
A High Court sitting in Homa Bay County has this morning nullified Governor Cyprian Awiti’s election for a second term in the August 2017 election. The High court nullified Governor Awiti’s win after a successful petition by former Kasipul Member of Parliament Oyugi Magwanga.
In his rulling, the judge on Tuesday 20th February 2018 said the process was not free and fair and that the process was marred with irregularities that compelled a nullification.
The former MP had sought court redress after the general elections citing massive irregularities and rigging which he claimed had affected the gubernatorial results.
Sources close to Governor Awiti have however indicated that his legal team is set to appeal the ruling. Governor Awiti maintains he emerged winner in the August 2017 poll.
