Chaos in Mombasa as ODM candidate petition fails to unseat ‘Jicho la Nyali’
Police were this morning forced to fire in the air to disperse irate youth who broke into chaos at the Mombasa High Court following a judgement that upheld Mohammed Ali’s win as the Nyali Member of parliament in the August 2017 general election.
The petition against the election of former investigative journalist Mohammed Ali as Nyali MP, according to the court, flopped due to lack of evidence. However, the hundreds of youth allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party felt the judgement was unfair and that justice had not been done.
The petitioner; Said Abdalla’s side according to the judgement, failed to put up a strong case that would warrant the unseating of the Nyali MP Mohammed Ali who was elected as an independent candidate.
