IEBC Commissioner Akombe Resigns 7 days to repeat polls
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Dr. Roselyne Akombe has resigned. In a statement delivered from New York, the United states of America early today, the commissioner says she is not ready to be part of a mockery and that IEBC is not ready to conduct free and fair elections owing to the fact that some of the commissioners are partisan and are receiving instructions from unknown persons.
Commissioner Akombe had left the country to Dubai on official duty where she was to meet Dubai based printing firm Al Ghurair officials and oversee the printing of the October 26th poll ballot papers. Instead Akombe diverted and headed for the United states and announced her resignation.
‘IEBC has become partisan, I dont want to be part of a mockery, the commission is under siege,’
she said insisting that her resignation was a difficult decision to make.
The commissioner added that as it stands, the IEBC should come out and let Kenyans know that in its current formation, the IEBC cannot guarantee a free and fair election on 26th October. She alleges that a section of the commission is serving political interests and feels she cannot be part of that kind of misconduct.
