Gaming platform SportPesa through their Kits for Africa Initiative has partnered with the Irungu Nyakera Foundation to donate football kits and footballs to 52 teams from 35 Wards in Murang’a County.
The generous donation is in tandem with the foundation and Gaming platform’s continued efforts to develop football at all levels in the country.
Speaking to www.thetruth.co.ke on the sidelines of the event, Irungu Nyakera, the chairman of the Irungu Nyakera Foundation, which works hand in hand with the respective football teams called upon the National and County governments to emulate SportPesa’s efforts to grow budding talent as a way of empowering the youth.
“I would like to urge the national and county governments to invest more in the youth by putting up more sports facilities to help the younger generation further their skills and help keep them away from drugs and alcohol,”
Sportpesa’s Kits for Africa initiative has kitted hundreds of teams since its inception in 2016 and aims to provide kits to teams across the region, most of which are financially challenged and unable to afford kits necessary for training as well as actual games.
The Irungu Nyakera foundation has been of great help to football teams from Murang’a that feature in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leagues for the past two years.
“SportPesa has enabled us to fully kit 52 teams from 35 wards within the Coubty of Murang’a. Further, we have today provided balls, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have added sanitizers to the donations list in the hope that everyone continues being safe as things slowly normalise,”
Present at the donation ceremony was Chairman of the Githunguri football club who thanked the Foundation and SportPesa immensely for their efforts to grow football talent in the county.
‘Thank you very much for your support, our small upcoming teams struggle with getting uniforms and kits and also financially. We know that if you stay with us you will help us with our needs in the future,”
said Boniface Mwangi, Chairman of Githunguri FC.
