Judge cites insufficient evidence, upholds Trans Nzoia Governor win
The High Court sitting in Trans-Nzoia county has today dismissed the petition filed against Trans-Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba by two private citizens thus upholding his win in the August 2017 poll. The petition was thrown out over insufficient evidence to back allegations of poll malpractices and illegalities.
The Judge further ordered the petitioners to pay Sh10m in costs.
In December last year, the Independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC), in response to the petition had said there was no evidence of illegalities, no candidates who participated in the same poll had disputed and challenged the Governor’s win and that the results showed Khaemba won with a wide margin of more than 42,000 votes of which would be difficult for the petitioners to challenge.
