Mombasa Governor Joho meets ex- Kiambu boss Kabogo in rare show of unity
Former Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has today held talks with Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho in what political observers say could be political pacts and alliances formations ahead of the 2022 poll.
In a social media post, Governor Joho posted:
‘My brother William Kabogo paid me a courtesy call to discuss matters of National interest in particular nation building and national unity,’
Prior to this meeting, the rivalry between the two leaders has been crystal clear. Just before the August 2017 elections, the two leaders who supported different candidates for the presidency often differed in war of words.
They say however, that there are no permanent enemies in politics. The two have claimed to be meeting to discuss matters of nation building and national unity. Political pundits have however hinted at a possible collaboration between Kabogo and Joho for the top seat in 2022.
The Famous Raila Odinga-Uhuru Kenyatta handshake that saw the rulling Jubilee Party work hand in hand with the opposing parties in the 2017 elections could be one reason as to today’s meeting. Joho had late last year declared that he would work with the government of the day because ‘Baba’ had said it was okay.
The William Ruto factor…
Sentiments from other quarters intimate that the duo may be collaborating to kick out DP William Ruto who’se got his eyes fixed on the presidency come 2022. The former Governor has often publicly declared that the Mount Kenya region was not comfortable with a Ruto presidency and that the region would field its candidate when the time comes.
It is however notable that a section of Mount Kenya politicians have backed the Ruto presidency and have on many occasions endorsed him in the region.
