Nairobi County Executive on the spot for city land grabbing
Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCA’s) are seeking to reclaim land allegedly grabbed by Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko close ally and Executive in his government. Stephen Mwangi is accused of irregularly acquiring land where Safari bowling green restaurant at City Park in Nairobi’s Parklands sits. The restaurant is linked to former Nairobi County Chief of Staff, George Wainaina.
During a site visit at the city park based hotel, Nairobi County public accounts committee members alleged that Mr. Mwangi who is Chief officer lands, is a person of interest in the matter.
The committee, led by its Chair Wilfred Ochola Odalo ,told journalists that Mr Mwangi skipped the meeting even after being invited raising mcas eyebrows on the matter.
“Why has Mr. Mwangi defied an order to appear before this committee, this shows he is a main suspect,”
said Kilimani MCA Mr Ogeto, a committee member.
The city law makers accuse the top official for playing cat and mouse games by declining to cooperate thus undermining their oversight role.
The MCA’s have vowed to ensure they reclaim the land as well as a number of other public land pieces grabbed within Nairobi County.
The legislators now want Governor Sonko to come out publicly and sack the said officer and reclaim the land.
“We’re telling Governor Sonko to move with speed and sack the prime suspect as we continue with investigation,”
The prime suspect in the city park land saga; Mr Mwangi was however unreachable for comment. He neither picked calls nor answered SMS’s.
