PHOTOS: Chaos as 3 shot by anti-riot police cordoning off Jacaranda grounds
Three NASA coalition supporters have allegedly been shot by police in Embakasi East constituency as they made their way to the Jacaranda grounds where police have for several hours engaged youth allied to the opposition coalition in running battles.
Early this morning, police cordoned off the grounds ahead of a NASA planned memorial service in honor of its fallen comrades following a series of police brutality incidences on supporters of the opposition witnessed in the recent past.
Officers in full anti-riot gear were early today deployed to keep the supporters off the grounds even after NASA notified the police of the planned meeting and requested protection from the police service. They fired teargas and bullets at the youth to disperse them beating up passers by. Irate youth have however responded by lighting bonfires and blocking roads leading to the grounds.
Efforts had been made by last night to cripple the planned prayer rally.Last night, unknown people ferried and dumped garbage at the grounds in an effort to keep away supporters from the venue. Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome had declared the gathering illegal warning the opposition against holding the meeting.
Sources allied to thetruth.co.ke have revealed that the police have reportedly used excessive force on residents.
