Uproar as police turn on journalists covering Kisumu anti IEBC protests
Kenyans have condemned the actions of police on journalists in Kisumu during yesterday’s anti IEBC protest by wananchi in the lakeside city. During the protests, the police allegedly turned against journalists covering the protests harassing them and lobbing teargas canisters in their direction.
It is also alleged that KTN reporter Rashid Ronald was roughed up and clobbered by the officers who claimed the journalists was biased and had been filing negative reports on the police thus putting the institution in bad light. Over twenty officers are said to have surrounded Rashid Ronald threatening to discipline him before colleagues from the other media stations intervened.
The police in the region have been accused of use of excessive force on peaceful demonstrators and unnecessarily causing panic among residents.
