Aga Khan University Hospital Expands Footprint with New Medical Centre in Westlands

Corporate News

The Aga Khan University Hospital has officially opened its 54th medical centre, strategically located along Rhapta Road in Westlands. The facility becomes the latest addition to the hospital’s growing network of outreach centres, aimed at decentralising healthcare and bringing world-class services closer to the community.

For over six decades, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has been a cornerstone of advanced medical care and education in East Africa. Renowned for its excellence in clinical care, cutting-edge technology, and patient-centered approach, the hospital is committed to the values of Impact, Quality, Relevance, and Access. Through its outreach and innovation, the institution continues to lead the way in transforming healthcare delivery across the region.

The newly unveiled Rhapta Medical Centre will offer a broad spectrum of services including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat), Family Medicine, Nutrition and Weight Management, Counselling Psychology, Vaccination, and a Well-Baby Clinic. It also provides wellness programmes, reflecting a preventive approach to healthcare.

The centre is equipped with modern diagnostic tools including on-site ultrasound, a fully stocked pharmacy, and a well-equipped laboratory—ensuring that patients receive fast and efficient care under one roof.

Speaking at the launch event, Minet Kenya CEO Sammy Muthui, who served as the Chief Guest, praised the hospital’s continued investment in health infrastructure. He underscored the critical role outreach centres play in narrowing the gap in healthcare access, especially in a country where the facility-to-population ratio remains low.

“Outreach centres promote health equity in a system where proximity, affordability, and quality are still hurdles. With only 2.4 medical facilities per 10,000 people nationally, this new medical centre brings much-needed hope and inclusion—especially for the 46 percent of Kenyans who rely on private providers like Aga Khan University Hospital,

Muthui remarked.

Echoing this sentiment, Aga Khan University Hospital CEO Rashid Khalani emphasized that the Rhapta facility is more than just a new building—it represents a promise to deliver accessible, high-quality care to communities where they live and work.

“Our goal is to improve health outcomes by offering convenience without compromising on standards. Rhapta Medical Centre will uphold the same rigorous clinical protocols and evidence-based practices that our patients have come to expect,”

said Mr. Khalani.

The launch is part of the hospital’s long-term strategy to expand its footprint and make quality healthcare more accessible across the region. Aga Khan University Hospital currently operates 50 medical centres in Kenya and 4 in Uganda. Additionally, it offers mobile laboratory sample collection, home medication delivery, and in-home care services, making it one of the most comprehensive private healthcare networks in East Africa.
