The government is set to recruit 10,000 new police constables in an ambitious countrywide exercise aimed at strengthening security and improving service delivery within the National Police Service.
National Police Commission (NPC) Chairman Amani Yuda Komora made the announcement during a press briefing held at the conclusion of the commissioners’ induction retreat at a facility near the Kenya School of Government in Mombasa County.
Komora confirmed that the newly appointed police commissioners have officially assumed office and are fully committed to fulfilling their constitutional mandate.
“The commission remains united and steadfast in executing its mandate of ensuring effective human resource management within the National Police Service,” he stated.
The chairman also announced the appointment of Prof. Coilette Suda as the Vice Chairperson of the Commission.
Komora said that plans for the recruitment of 10,000 new police constables are already at an advanced stage, with preparations underway to begin advertising the vacancies.
“We have considered and approved a comprehensive roadmap for the recruitment exercise, including all necessary instruments to facilitate its immediate commencement,” he said.
He emphasized that the goal is to ensure that successful candidates report promptly to the Police Training College, where they will undergo rigorous training in preparation for their duties.
Komora was accompanied by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja Kirocho, who welcomed the recruitment drive and urged eligible Kenyans to seize the opportunity to serve their country.
“I encourage all qualified and passionate Kenyans to apply. With a fully constituted commission now in place, we are confident that this process will usher in critical reforms aimed at professionalizing the service,” Kanja said.
He added that the new team of commissioners will play a vital role in implementing reforms that focus on creating a professional, accountable, and people-centred police service.
The recruitment exercise is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize the police force, enhance security, and improve public trust in law enforcement institutions.
