Team Peacocks clinched the championship title at the second edition of the Red Bull Scramboo, outperforming 18 other competitors in a vibrant showcase of creativity, engineering and performance. Their victory earned them an all-expenses-paid trip to South Africa to attend next year’s Red Bull Soapbox, the global spectacle of homemade gravity-powered racing.

The highly anticipated event drew hundreds of spectators, packing the venue to capacity for a full day of inventive bike designs, spirited performances and adrenaline-charged racing.

This year’s competition featured 19 teams, each comprising a rider, a pusher and a passenger. Contestants submitted imaginative concept bikes reflecting a diverse range of themes—from matatu culture and Nairobi street food to whimsical animal motifs such as giraffes and tortoises, and even futuristic spacecraft-inspired designs. Teams were evaluated on three criteria: creativity of their bike design, a one-minute performance skit, and overall speed on the racecourse.

Team Peacocks captain Dominic Gichane said their win was the result of dedication and teamwork.

“We put our hearts into this project and seeing it win today means everything to us. We are grateful to Red Bull for giving young creators a platform to express themselves, and we can’t wait to enjoy the Red Bull Soapbox experience in South Africa,”

he said.

The 2025 racecourse was modeled on the Nairobi Expressway, running symbolically from the Museum Hill entrance to the Syokimau exit. The track was fitted with sharp bends, steep bumps, a water obstacle and even a mock toll gate—testing each team’s coordination, control and creativity under pressure.

Team Kobe delivered the fastest run of the day, crossing the finish line in exactly one minute. Team Spaceship dominated the performance segment, earning unanimous perfect scores from the judging panel. Team Peacocks, meanwhile, secured the highest creativity score with 38 points, placing them firmly in contention for the overall title.

Finishing second, Team Giraffe Action expressed mixed emotions. Captain Isaac Waweru said he was proud of the team’s effort but eager to return stronger.

“We have really enjoyed our day today. I thank Red Bull for putting this event together and I hope next year we return to win the competition,”

he said.

Team Spaceship’s captain, Ngaire Risper, echoed the spirit of determination after securing third place.

“Last year we were fans; this year we participated and finished third. We’re sticking together as a team and coming back next year. We shall win the competition,”

she said.

The judging panel featured creative artist MohaGrafix, Olympic sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala, comedian Mammito, and Kenya Sevens star Patrick Odongo. Omanyala praised both the turnout and the ingenuity on display.

“This has been a great event. I did not expect such a massive turnout. I loved the creativity showcased today by participants who came out in style to participate and have fun,”

he said, wishing the winners well as they look forward to their South African experience.

Odongo encouraged Red Bull to continue nurturing the Scramboo platform.

“Red Bull has achieved their main aim of inspiring creativity and bringing people together, going by the numbers we have witnessed here today. My message is for them to continue holding these events in the country as it has the potential to grow into a fully recognized sport worldwide,”

he said, commending all teams for their heart and originality.

With the dust settling on an exhilarating second edition, attention now turns to Team Peacocks as they prepare for their forthcoming trip to South Africa—an opportunity to experience the Red Bull Soapbox from the global stage.
