DCI Boss Amin Receives Hero’s Welcome After Historic INTERPOL Victory
A mood of celebration swept through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters on Monday, where officers assembled to welcome home their chief, Mohamed Amin, following his landmark election to the INTERPOL Executive Committee as Africa’s Delegate.
Mr. Amin Mohamed secured the influential continental seat during the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly held on November 27, 2025, in Marrakech, Morocco—an outcome widely viewed as a significant diplomatic and professional triumph for Kenya’s security sector.
As his motorcade rolled into the Kiambu Road compound, officers broke into applause, lining the entrance to honor the returning director. Senior officials, led by Deputy Director John Onyango, stepped forward to receive him with a mix of pride and admiration.
Speaking during the reception, Mr. Onyango described the victory as a defining moment for the institution, attributing it to Mr. Amin’s calm but firm leadership style and his extensive experience spanning decades in criminal investigations.
“This is not just a win for the Director; it is a win for the entire nation,”
Onyango said.
“Mr. Amin has consistently demonstrated commitment, integrity, and professionalism. His election affirms Kenya’s growing influence in international policing matters.”
The appointment places Mr. Amin at the heart of global security decision-making, as the INTERPOL Executive Committee plays a crucial role in shaping strategic direction, policy priorities, and cooperation among member states.
For Kenya, it marks yet another step in solidifying its role as a regional hub for law enforcement initiatives and transnational crime prevention.
For many officers at the DCI, the moment symbolized both institutional pride and renewed motivation. As celebrations wound down, Mr. Amin expressed gratitude for the support of his team and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Kenya’s contribution to international policing.
