Kenya Police FC have an opportunity to rise to the top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table when they take on Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in a pivotal match this weekend.
Currently, Police are just two points behind leaders Tusker, with both teams having played 27 matches. A win for Police would propel them into first place, putting pressure on Tusker as the league approaches its final stages.
KCB, on the other hand, sits in fifth position with 41 points from 27 matches. The bankers will be looking to secure a vital three points to climb higher in the standings.
Meanwhile, defending champions Gor Mahia are in third place with 47 points from 27 matches. This weekend, they face Mara Sugar, who are currently 12th on the table with 30 points from the same number of games.
Gor Mahia squandered a golden opportunity to leapfrog Police into second place after suffering a 1-0 loss to Talanta FC in a rescheduled league match.
Despite assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno being in charge for the match, it was a disappointing result for the Green Army. Coach Sinisa Mihic, who had been suspended due to a red card in their April encounter with KCB (which they won 1-0), watched the match from a distance. Mihic is set to return to the sidelines this weekend as Gor Mahia looks to bounce back.
